Art historical and museological methods offer an extensive apparatus for scientists working in museums. Following a theoretical introduction, a practical example based on the Old Kingdom collection in the Hildesheim Museum will be used to illustrate the principles and origins of a new exhibition concept, which takes the wishes and needs of the 21st century visitor greater into account.
