Pathos is a central notion of Western thought. Part I of the volume is dedicated to the idea of pathos in literature and literary theory and reaches from Antiquity to Modernity. Part II considers various manifestations of pathos in religion, politics, painting and film. Part III analyses the psychical and affective dimensions of pathos in philosophy from Plato to the 20th century.
