Die Schriftenreihe ALE befasst sich mit der Erforschung der englischsprachigen Literaturen Afrikas in der Breite und Vielfalt ihrer Themen, Formen und soziohistorischen Kontexte. Gleichzeitig impliziert der Titel, dass der Forschungsgegenstand als Hinterlassenschaft des britischen Kolonialismus ein kulturell hybrides Phänomen ist, welches im weiteren Umfeld der Colonial Studies mitsamt deren postkolonialer Kritik und Revision anzusiedeln ist. Entsprechend sollen die relevanten Texte einerseits als Teil des Symbolsystems Literatur einschließlich seiner einschlägigen ästhetischen Verfahren verstanden werden, in anderer Hinsicht aber als Teil des Sozialsystems und damit der Selbstinterpretation wie Selbstverständigung von Gesellschaften über ihre gemeinsame Sinngebung zu sehen sind.
The series ALE is focused on researching all African literatures written in the English language, encompassing the breadth and multiplicity of their thematic, formal and socio-historical aspects. The title equally implies that the object of study is conceived as a consequence of British colonialism, thus making it into a cultural hybrid that is inscribed in the wider context of Colonial Studies including their postcolonial critique and revision. Accordingly the texts to be studied are not only understood as forming part of the symbolic system of literature and its aesthetic procedures, but in an equal measure as part of the social system where they belong with the process of societies making meaning of themselves.

Die Reihe „Ethik – Text – Kultur“ will der anhaltenden Aufmerksamkeit für ethische Themen und Fragen in literatur- und kulturwissenschaftlichen Diskursen ein Forum bieten. Ethik – Text – Kultur markiert eine Konstellation, in der Ethik nicht als normative Wertsetzung verstanden wird, sondern als eine Reflexionstheorie von Moral, die es erlaubt, das kritische und widerständige Potential von Textualität und textuellen Praktiken in sowohl historischer als auch gegenwärtiger Perspektive sichtbar zu machen.
Darüber hinaus sollen in den Studien und Beiträgen der Reihe „Ethik – Text – Kultur“ die medialen und kulturellen Bedingungen ethischer Reflexion fokussiert werden. Zur Debatte stehen die implizite und explizite Ethik der Texte, ihrer Darstellungsweisen und ihrer Pragmatik, der Kultur und ihrer (medialen) Konstruktionen.
Darüber hinaus sollen in den Studien und Beiträgen der Reihe „Ethik – Text – Kultur“ die medialen und kulturellen Bedingungen ethischer Reflexion fokussiert werden. Die Reihe der „Huizinga Schriften“, die Brill | Fink seit 2011 in Neu- und Erstübersetzungen vorlegt, findet ihren Abschluss mit dem siebten Band, der mit „Homo Ludens“ den Referenztext aller modernen Spieltheorien enthält. Dank Annette Wunschel, die für ihre Übersetzung von Huizingas „Kultur- und zeitkritischen Schriften“ 2016 mit dem Else-Otten-Preis ausgezeichnet wurde, liegen jetzt nicht nur Huizingas Hauptwerke „Herbst des Mittelalters“, „Erasmus“ und „Homo Ludens“ in einer gänzlich neuen Übersetzung vor, die durch ihre intendierte Nähe zum Originaltext dessen Lebendigkeit und Pointenreichtum bis in kleinste Nuancen zu erhalten vermag. Mit den erstmals übersetzten Briefen, den „Amerika“-Büchern und der Biographie des Künstlers Jan Veth eröffnet sich ein umfassender Blick auf das Werk des großen niederländischen Kulturhistorikers.
Die Reihe ist mit Band 7 abgeschlossen.
The series of "Huizinga Schriften", which Brill | Fink has been presenting in new and first translations since 2011, comes to a close with the seventh volume, which contains "Homo Ludens", the reference text of all modern game theories. Thanks to Annette Wunschel, who was awarded the Else Otten Prize in 2016 for her translation of Huizinga's "Kultur- und zeitkritischen Schriften" not only are Huizinga's main works "Herbst des Mittelalters," "Erasmus," and "Homo Ludens" now available in a completely new translation, which, through its intended closeness to the original text, is able to preserve its liveliness and richness of punchlines down to the smallest nuances. With the letters, the "America" books, and the biography of the artist Jan Veth translated for the first time, a comprehensive view of the work of the great Dutch cultural historian opens up.
The series is completed with volume 7.

The multifaceted examination of the theme of 'work' and its social-gravitational forces is a continually transforming academic project. The book series vita activa responds to this proposition and aims to bring interdisciplinary perspectives into contact with each other and interconnect them. Complementary to sociological approaches to the theme of work, the series highlights a uniquely cultural-specific view of work in contemporary debates – it focuses specifically on the historicity of ideas about work as well as their culturally specific and medial manifestations. The areas of literature, film, television, photography, and art generate exceptional archives for the representation of work and work cultures. They reveal how contemporary historical interpretations, values, and the politics of work are shaped, they point to their ruptures and contradictions, and they experiment with alternative concepts in aesthetic-fictional spaces. The series accounts for the broad spectrum of epistemological interests outlined above by including a methodological plurality of literary and cultural studies approaches and draws key insights from its multiplicity of perspectives; it collects and frames them, and it thereby contributes to the visibility of cultural studies research.
