Academic publishing today
Due to digitalization and the constant development of electronic media, academic publishing is constantly undergoing structural change. Researchers access databases and e-books – at all conceivable places and at all times. They still work with the printed book, but increasingly they also read on tablets or smartphones. The need for fast and convenient access to information is continuously growing.
We meet the challenges of digital publishing: From the printed edition to the enhanced e-book – we realize your project in the best possible form and present your research results to a broad, worldwide audience.
Our E-Book Format
Our e-books are realized in PDF format. The PDF has become widely accepted in the academic world as a file format for e-books, mainly because it can be cited academically due to the pagination which is identical to that of the printed edition.
Distribution and indexing
If you do not object to it, we will offer your book in digital format at the same time as the print edition. Our e-books are distributed in carefully planned collections as well as individually. We maintain extensive contacts to libraries and research institutions worldwide, which are regularly visited by our sales representatives. To further enhance the visibility and usability of your book, it is indexed in all major databases, such as Web of Science, Scopus, Summons, Primo, Ebsco Discovery or Google Scholar.
All your texts are provided with MARC-records (Machine-Readable Cataloging) – the international standard for the distribution of bibliographic data. By assigning a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), i.e. a unique identification number, articles, contributions or book chapters can also be retrieved and purchased individually. The assignment of a DOI increases the visibility of the individual contributions and guarantees citation. The DOI is permanently valid as an address and remains unchanged, even if the storage location changes. Since the foundation of CrossRef, the international agency for the registration of DOIs, in 2000, Brill has been a member and thus optimally integrated into networks for online publications.
