This paper deals with the relationship between Egyptology and Museology. Museology is discussed in general with regards to its system, its role in and consequences for all scientific disciplines within the field of Humanities, and more specifically with regards to the scope of work ideally undertaken by Egyptologists employed in museums and the place of university museums within this system. These considerations are then followed by case studies of museum communication, which constitutes the basis of any museum exhibition, including the opportunities that arise from corresponding publications of research work. Finally, although the Egyptologist is indispensable in any Egyptian museum, a stronger emphasis on Museology in Egyptological education is desirable.
